Coronavirus update

Bakers Solicitors remains open for business and available to support the clients who need us.

Our solicitors are working, our telephone lines are open, and we are determined to ensure it is ‘business as usual’ with minimal disruption.

Technology allows Bakers Solicitors to continue representing clients who face personal difficulties. All our staff members have access to laptops and our staff are well equipped to work remotely. We have invested heavily in IT in recent times, including a state-of-the-art internet-based telephone system and cloud-based software. This enables us to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

Whilst our offices will remain open, we will, in most cases, conduct client meetings by telephone or video conference. Most importantly we will continue to be available for existing and new clients.

Our family law solicitors are familiar with the recently published guidance from the President of the Family Division and as such will be able to represent clients at court hearings remotely or in person. Our criminal defence solicitors are well-used to video link technology but will also continue to attend police stations and courts in person when needed.

Premises Licence Application

When running a business that involves a licensable activity, normally selling alcohol, you need to apply to the Council where your business is located for a Premises Licence.

A Premises Licence authorises you to sell alcohol from those premises.

Our Licensing Manager, Tony Dales, has 15 years’ experience in dealing with the Police, Licensing Authorities and other agencies involved when a Premises Licence is required.

Licensable activities are defined as:

  • Selling Alcohol by retail
  • Supply of alcohol in club premises
  • Providing late night refreshment (hot food or drink between 12 midnight and 5am) and
  • Provision of regulated entertainment such as Theatre, Plays, Pop concerts etc

Your local council have a process that requires completion before a licence is issued.

You will need to show that your premises and how they are run, will not adversely affect the 4 licensing objectives. These are:

  • Protection of Children from Harm
  • Prevention of Crime and Disorder
  • Prevention of Public Nuisance
  • Public Safety

You will also need to provide notices for the public and to the local newspaper, as well as submit planning drawings.

This process can be complex. Our licensing experts will use their knowledge to smooth the path to allow you the time to prepare for the practicalities of running your business.

Based in the High Peak we are ideally placed to deal with clients throughout Derbyshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire. We also have clients in the City of London, South Wales, Lincolnshire, Blackpool and Northumberland. As a progressive firm we are able to represent clients across the country through our use of technology.
